The Zada Bird Brannen
Scholarship Fund


The Zada Bird Brannen Scholarship Fund was established by The Huguenot Society of Georgia on November 2, 1974, during the administration of Dr. Russell J. Mercer, Jr. The scholarship name honors Mrs. William Lawton Brannen, founder and first President of the Society, who died December 25, 1979.

In 1981, with $11,864.58 in the fluid, the first grants were made. The recipients were: Michael and Candace DeLoach, the children of Herbert Ray DeLoach; Nelson Wilkinson, the grandson of Mrs. J. M. E. Schuster; and Carol Steel, granddaughter of Mrs. Hulda K. Kelly.

The Scholarship Committee is composed of the President, the immediate Past President and the Registrar. The Fund is administered by the Georgia Baptist Foundation.

To be eligible to receive the scholarship the applicant must be a registered undergraduate college student or a high school student accepted at a college or university, and must be a member of The Huguenot Society of Georgia or the child, grandchild, nephew or niece of a Member.
